About me: The Story of The Belgian Investor

Dear reader,

Welcome to my blog. My name is Tiziano Milani, and I am The Belgian Investor.

I started this site in 2018 out of a simple frustration: the complex yet fascinating world of finance. Like so many, I was invited to my bank, where I signed up for a pension savings plan. I was convinced of its utility, but the stock market was completely new territory.

When I noticed my savings fluctuating, a light bulb went on: there’s extra money to be made here.

My Journey (and Mistakes)

Like many, I started with the expensive, actively-managed funds from my bank. Thankfully, I quickly moved on to cheaper funds, building what I thought was a solid, globally diversified portfolio.

Until I stumbled upon the Bogleheads philosophy.

After reading about John Bogle and the power of passive index investing, I realized my strategy was unnecessarily expensive and complex. I then switched completely to a passive index portfolio using ETFs.

This discovery is the reason this blog exists. My family and friends weren’t interested in the stock market, so I started my “outlet”: a place to share my passion for passive investing, specifically tailored to the Belgian situation (including taxes and brokers).

My Mission: Without the Headache

My mission is to translate complex financial topics (from ETFs to real estate) into clear, common-sense guides. In plain English. I want to help you invest “without the headache.”
